With sunglasses, the best indicator is where they were purchased and for how much. The current seasons glasses cost between $200 and $400. Some previous season shades can be discounted highly through Nordstrom Rack, etc.
If they were a gift, then just assess who beught them and if they could afford them. Or just ask.
